  Mon Jan 5th - Sun Jan 11th

Monday 1/05 -

Jupiter enters Aquarius (8:42 AM). Jupiter takes approx. 11 1/2 years to travel through the zodiac, spending just under a year in each sign. Its transit through Aquarius is one of the astrological signatures of 2009, certainly it's brightest, most helpful and optimist one.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion and good luck. The sign it is in shows us where our best opportunities lie and what resources are available in abundance. Aquarius is the idealist, the humanitarian, the innovator, the individualist who finds their own path through the forest, listening to their own inner voice.

Under the influence of Jupiter in Aquarius, people want to work to help humanity, the country and the planet. Community of purpose becomes of prime importance as people are drawn to work together to solve mutual problems.

People are feeling optimist about the Obama presidency and the possibilities it brings for a hopeful, new start and the righting of some long-existing wrongs. Obama's election has given many people a reason to start feeling good about being Americans again.

Jupiter moves rapidly through Aquarius in the next couple of months reaching a conjunction with Neptune in late Aquarius at the end of May. Jupiter then goes retrograde and spends the rest of the year going back and forth over Neptune, making the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction one of the signature alignments of the year. (More about Jupiter/Neptune in the upcoming New Year's article).

The Moon moves into Taurus at 8:46 AM and into a square with Jupiter freshly into Aquarius so there's a push/pull between practicality and the comfort zone. Comfort wins out and this day gets off to a slow start.

By late morning people are finally getting focused as the Moon trines Pluto. This is good for concentration and the determination to get something accomplished.

The mood sweetens just after lunch when the Moon sextiles Venus in Pisces (1:05 PM). People are kinder and more helpful under this gentle influence.

There's lots of chatter but not much content as the Moon squares Mercury (5:28 PM) just after sunset. It's easy to lose track of this evening's plans as your train of thought gets derailed.

Some will be getting a second wind later this evening when the Moon makes an energizing trine to Mars, the action planet (9:43 PM). This could turn into a late night after all.

Tuesday 1/06 - It's a harmonious day. Working and coordinating with others goes smoothly and efficiently. (Taurus Moon trine Sun in Cap at 1:08 PM).

The evening is pleasant and promises something diverting and a little bit different. (Moon sextile Uranus at 5:46 PM).

The energy is low-key tonight. Go to bed early. This is an evening to rest and recharge. (Moon trine Saturn at 9:36 PM and square dreamy Neptune at 11:05 PM).

Wednesday 1/07 - The Moon enters Gemini at 11:12 AM.

This turns out to be a thoroughly pleasant day.

The morning is outgoing and friendly as the Gemini Moon moves into a trine to Jupiter in Aquarius (12:00 PM). People are in the mood to socialize. Take a friend to lunch.

People want to luxuriate this evening, spend a little extra money and do something special for themselves (Moon square Venus at 7:09 PM).

This evening conversation flows like good wine encouraged by mellow times with good friends. (Moon trine Mercury in Aquarius at 10:02 PM).

Thursday 1/08 - The day passes smoothly enough until around sunset when some very rough edges create a bit of a snag. First, there's a Moon/Uranus square at 6:34 PM that has people feeling cranky and impatient. This is followed by a Moon/Saturn square (10:05 PM) that turns that anger into depression. It's an accident-prone evening. Try and avoid driving, especially on icy roads.

Friday 1/09 - There's a feeling of something new and exciting inspiring us today, a sense of expectation and anticipation. The Moon will be Full tomorrow and that special Full Moon energy is in the air. Maybe you've got special plans for the weekend or for the New Year but there's a feeling of newness and great possibilities just around the corner as the Sun sextiles Uranus (8:29 AM) this morning.

The Moon enters Cancer at 11:14 AM and makes an opposition to Pluto just after lunch (1:43 PM). People may decide to quit early, call it a day, head for the hills and get a jumpstart on the weekend.

The evening is pleasant and cozy. A trine from the Cancer Moon to Venus in Pisces (10:31 PM) has folks in the mood to entertain at home tonight.

Saturday 1/10 - It's a high energy day that starts out with an early morning opposition between the Moon and Mars (4:04 AM). This will be rousting many out of bed, wondering why they're waking up at this ungodly hour. For all the early birds, it's just business as usual. Moon/Mars is rather cranky so try not to be the one out there, banging around in the dark, groping for the coffee pot, tripping over the dog and muttering deprecations.

The rapid pace continues into the evening and the energy is still going strong as the Moon moves into a trine with dynamic Uranus (6:06 PM).

If the night is clear, look for a lovely Full Moon rising just after sunset. The Moon is Full in 21° Cancer (8:27 PM).

Sunday 1/11 - Mercury goes into retrograde (9:44 AM) today. Mercury will be in reverse motion until the end of the month, slowing business communications and negotiations down for further consideration.

The Moon moves into Leo at 10:41 AM.

The Sun trines solemn Saturn (11:02 AM), creating a serious undercurrent to an otherwise light-hearted day. Peoples' minds are on business and practical matters.

Things lighten up just before 1 PM when the Leo Moon opposes Jupiter in Aquarius and its time for some diversion. Get out of the house for a bit of fun.

The party mood continues well into the evening as the Moon moves toward a late opposition to Mercury (11:03 PM). There's a bit of wanderlust here, the urge to be out and about exploring or just swapping stories with a friend.

* All times are MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). For EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) add two hours. All aspects in bold are major influences that are in effect for several days. The Moon's daily aspects are rapidly shifting influences that are in effect for only a few hours.

 Mon Jan 12th - Sun Jan 18th

Monday 1/12 - It's a quiet Monday. The Moon in Leo makes no major aspects until late at night when it opposes Neptune (11:39 PM), a drowsy aspect, in anticipation of which we spend most of the day sleep walking.

Tuesday 1/13 - . The Moon moves into Virgo at 11:33 AM so a more businesslike approach helps get the week organized. This afternoon the Moon trines Pluto (2:25 PM), making it easy to get focused on the task at hand and move quickly and efficiently through the day

Wednesday 1/14 - The Moon opposes Venus in Pisces (7:20 AM) early this morning so no one is in the mood to work even though duty calls. Take it slow if you can and ease into this day. By late morning we're back in gear as the Moon trines Mars in Capricorn (11:14 AM). This is an energizing and motivated alignment.

Tonight is a bit on the wild side as a Moon/Uranus opposition (9:15 PM) has people ready to break with routine and get out for a little taste of adventure. Watch your driving though as Moon/Uranus is always accident-prone.

The Moon conjuncts gloomy Saturn later tonight (12:32 AM) so the evening ends on a disappointing note. Why not beat the odds and get to bed well before the Moon/Saturn effect sets in?

Thursday 1/15 - The morning starts out in a harmonious mode that carries us through the better part of the day.

The Moon moves into Libra at 3:30 PM.

A hyper sensitive and wary mood takes over as the Moon squares Pluto (6:43 PM). This is a good moment to take some private time to rest and recharge. A little nap after dinner will do the trick.

The energy level perks up just before 8 PM when the Moon trines Jupiter in Aquarius. Now people are ready to socialize and it turns out to be a wonderful evening after all.

Friday 1/16 - The first major lunar aspect doesn't happen until tonight when the Libra Moon squares Mars (8:21 PM) making people rather demanding and irritable. They want what they want and they want it now.

Saturday 1/17 - It's a dreamy and idyllic morning. A Moon/Neptune trine (9:56 AM) creates a relaxed and agreeable mood.

This evening is energized but a bit edgy as the Libra Moon squares the Sun in Capricorn (7:46 PM).

The Moon enters Scorpio at 11:20 PM.

Sunday 1/18 - People wake up feeling happy and optimistic, looking forward to an enjoyable day. Retrograde Mercury is back for another conjunction with Jupiter (12:07 PM). Mercury's retrograde is taking back and forth over this happy placement. It first conjuncted Jupiter on 12/31, is back for a second pass today and will finish up with a third and final conjunction on 2/23. This entire period is characterized by a feeling of optimism and hope, setting an upbeat tone for the beginning of the New Year.

* All times are MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). For EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) add two hours. All aspects in bold are major influences that are in effect for several days. The Moon's daily aspects are rapidly shifting influences that are in effect for only a few hours.

 Mon Jan 19th - Sun Jan 25th

Monday 1/19 - There's excitement and a thrill of electricity in the air. The nation's capitol is dancing with joyful supporters of the new administration and great relief at the departure of the group of gangsters who have driven this country into the ground.

This is a historic moment and, skepticism aside, . . . "We must be satisfied with the attainable. If we should go too far and try to achieve too much, it would lead to unrest and misfortune. For the object of a great revolution is the attainment of clarified, secure conditions ensuring a general stabilization on the basis of what is possible at the moment." (from Revolution, hexagram 49 of the Richard Wilhelm translation of the Book of Changes, the I Ching).

An early morning Moon/Venus trine (7:59 AM) gets the day off to a cheery start. There's a palpable sense of happiness and relief. People are feeling magnanimous and kindly toward each other.

A surge of energy blasts this day into high gear as the Moon sextiles Mars (9:58 AM) and moves on toward an afternoon trine to Uranus (2:18 PM). The energy just keeps on building.

The Sun enters Aquarius at 3:41 PM shifting our focus from the duties and responsibilities of Capricorn toward Aquarian vision and idealism.

Things level off later on as the Moon sextiles Saturn (5:21 PM) and a more sober mood prevails. Time to take a break for the necessities, like eating dinner, before an evening of celebration and over-indulgence for some or just a quiet evening at home for the rest of us, as the Moon makes a square to Neptune (8:37 PM).

Tuesday 1/20 - It's Barrack Obama's Inauguration Day and the Mercury/Jupiter conjunction, whose optimism and euphoria is coloring the beginning of the year (12/31/09 - 2/23/09), is in full flower as the Moon sextiles Mercury (11:41 AM), the Sun (12:15 AM) and Jupiter (5:46 PM).

The Sun conjuncted Mercury (8:59 AM) this morning, an aspect of eloquency and sensibility. What a pleasure to listen to a gifted speaker with something to say. What a contrast!

The Moon moves into Sagittarius at 10:30 AM.

Later tonight Mercury's retrograde takes it back into Capricorn (10:36 PM). Looks like there's some unfinished business that needs to be taken care of and as soon as the last piece of confetti has fallen, attention turns immediately to that.

Wednesday 1/21 - There are no major lunar aspects today though we're still riding on yesterday's high. There's a big energy spike after midnight on when the Sagittarius Moon squares Venus (1:43 AM Thursday) and Uranus (2:59 AM Thursday) so it looks like there will be some late-night parties going on. For the rest of us, this may be one of those nights where it's hard to sleep and you keep waking up wondering what's wrong.

Thursday 1/22 - It's a groggy morning. Whether you were up late or just couldn't seem to sleep, this morning's Moon/Saturn square (5:42 AM) makes for a rugged start to the day. The party's over and duty calls. But it may not be calling very loud as a Moon/Neptune sextile (9:24 AM) urges us back to bed. At best, the day proceeds from a reluctant start at a rather distracted and dreamy pace.

By midmorning a Mars/Uranus sextile (10:00 AM) wakes us like a trumpet blast and this day finally gets going. Mars/Uranus is independent and willful but highly motivated and very active.

There's even more Uranian energy today so be prepared for unexpected excitement and unusual characters showing up out of the blue. Venus conjuncts Uranus (6:02 PM) giving this day a special flare. A special opportunity brought by an unusual messenger may be on its way. Certainly, it's a great day to let your hair down, throw inhibition to the wind and express yourself.

The Moon enters Capricorn at 11:18 PM.

Friday 1/23 - There's good news today. The Sun conjuncts Jupiter in Aquarius (10:45 PM), giving more strength and definition to the ongoing Mercury/Jupiter conjunction. Now everybody realizes there really has been a major shift.

Saturday 1/24 - This day turns out to be rather disappointing. Several Saturn aspects collude to pop our bubble. First off, Mars trines Saturn (1:06 AM), which is not so bad in itself. This is an aspect of hard work, responsibility and challenging circumstances but it gives the fortitude necessary for dealing with those conditions.

It's really today's Venus/Saturn opposition (1:16 AM) that adds the disappointment and difficulty. People can be rather cold and unfeeling under this aspect. It's often when we're focused on the wrongs done to us that we do the worst things to others. Self-pity is the justification for much cruelty and unkindness.

Venus sextile Mars (2:05 AM) usually adds a sexy, fulfilling note but it's a bit overwhelmed by today's other aspects. A partner's loyalty in times of trouble may help soothe your spirit.

The afternoon is fast paced and interesting as the Moon sextiles Uranus (4:04 PM) though the Moon/Saturn trine (6:20 PM) that follows it tones things down a bit.

The Moon conjuncts Mars (7:35 PM) this evening making people demanding, needy and likely to get angry if their desires are not given immediate attention. Hopefully the Moon/Venus sextile happening at the same time (7:52 PM) will sweeten things up as our desire is reciprocated and day ends happily after all.

Sunday 1/25 - There's a New Moon solar eclipse happening but actually it's tomorrow, Monday morning at 12:55 AM.

Today the Capricorn Moon conjoins Mercury (2:08 AM) so our thoughts are on practical matters this weekend.

The Moon enters Aquarius at 11:56 AM.

The dark of the moon, the time just before New Moon, is usually a quiet, inward time but this evening's Moon/Jupiter conjunction (9:36 PM) brings people out of hiding for a bit of celebration and sharing. At very least, there'll be some late night phone calls.

* All times are MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). For EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) add two hours. All aspects in bold are major influences that are in effect for several days. The Moon's daily aspects are rapidly shifting influences that are in effect for only a few hours.

  Mon Jan 26th - Sun Feb 1st

Monday 1/26 - The Aquarius New Moon and annular eclipse of the Sun (12:55 AM) marks the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Ox, that patient, hard working animal who illustrates the qualities most likely to bring success this year.

The New Moon conjuncts Jupiter, accenting its recent arrival in the sign of the Waterbearer. The Aquarian spirit of humanitarian concern for the greater good is in ascendancy as the nation basks in the warm glow of good feeling and a sense of renewal.

Mercury in Capricorn sextiles Venus in Pisces (4:31 PM) this afternoon, creating a harmonious balance, a graceful sense of proportion and a pleasing manner of expression that charms and soothes. This helps sweeten the rather forceful message that today's other major aspect, Mercury conjunct Mars (11:11 PM), delivers. Mercury/Mars is mentally alert and articulate. People want to discuss and debate the merits of their ideas and beliefs now.

Tuesday 1/27 - It's a quiet day and the pace never really picks up. Things get off to a slow start this morning with a sleepy Moon/Neptune conjunction (10:13 AM) setting the tone for a rather distracted and dreamy day. Precipitation is likely. The Moon enters Pisces at 11:12 PM this evening.

Wednesday 1/28 - It's another slow day. There are no major lunar aspects during the waking hours.

Thursday 1/29 - This week finally wakes up as the Pisces Moon heads toward an invigorating conjunction with Uranus (2:15 PM), the planet of surprises. There's an undercurrent of excitement and anticipation running through this day. People are alert and lively.

Events take a frustrating turn a little while later when the Moon opposes Saturn (3:31 PM). Things may not turn out as well as expected. There's disappointment in the air and the energy level tanks.

Spirits pick up again a couple of hours later. Maybe it was just time for a nap or a moment of low blood sugar but people are wide awake and ready for an interesting evening as the Moon sextiles Mercury (5:34 PM) and Mars (12:41 AM). This could turn out to be a late night when brain-storming and a busy mind won't let you get to sleep until after midnight.

Friday 1/30 - A gentle mood softens our dreams and soothes our sleep as the Moon conjuncts Venus in Pisces (2:24 AM) in the wee hours of the morning.

The tone changes when the Moon enters Aries at 8:25 AM. People become more assertive as the morning progresses and there could be some kind of challenge or confrontation as the Moon squares Pluto around noon (12:38 PM).

The day ends on a friendly note as earlier tensions are dismissed and a spirit of camaraderie prevails. The Aries Moon sextiles Jupiter (7:34 PM) and people are in the mood for a bit of fun.

Saturday 1/31 - A feeling of harmony pervades the morning hours (Moon/Sun sextile at 6:16 AM). The Aquarius/Aries energy has people feeling hopeful and revitalized.

Sunday 2/01 -There's a shift in the middle of the night as Mercury goes back into direct motion (12:11 AM). Now people will begin to move forward with plans that have been on hold since Mercury went into retrograde back on January 11th. There's a lot of mental activity during the night. Expect busy dreams and a rather restless night's sleep.

* All times are MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). For EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) add two hours. All aspects in bold are major influences that are in effect for several days. The Moon's daily aspects are rapidly shifting influences that are in effect for only a few hours.
